The Good Guy and The Bad Guy

You have become ingrained in my DNA
my skin smells like yours
when it sweats, I don’t remember you;
I live it, still.
I carry your kindness and humor
every day around me,
I wasn’t born with those things,
You taught me
when I had nothing to give
and I carry the stress
of what you did to me
in my back, it hunches over
so I do yoga
and I have to call you
to make sure you’re ok,
because I worry.

I will always feel this way.

I can tell you
not to come near me
and this time,
I mean it.
But here you are still
and here I am.
Separate, but equal.
I will always be there for you.

If there was some way
to change that, I would.
Just please,
only call me when you need to.
