PSA on Medication

My poem, The Bell Jar Ascends, needs a disclaimer.

I had a hard time this year after coming home and experiencing some residual post traumatic stress, which I mismanaged right into the ground. I decided to seek help but wrote that I would refuse medication.
I am now making efforts to manage my stress properly, I have a strong support system, and I’m in therapy once a week. If I thought I couldn’t manage my illness on my own, I would certainly take medication. When taken properly, it can save lives.
If you have an illness you cannot manage on your own, I’d like to know that you are managing it responsibly. The most important thing is that you make it through the day ok.
Also, if you know me in real life, it should be fairly obvious that you SHOULD NOT be reading my blog and are not allowed to. If you’ve done this by accident, please see me so I can wipe your memory.
Those of you who don’t know me and have sent notes of concern, thank you for caring.

  1. Thank you for sharing and raising awareness of mental illness. I appreciate that you help normalize it through genuine, if not painful, and humorous, creative writing.
